Horns of Valhalla

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Horns of Valhalla

Horns of Valhalla by Creighton Broadhurst is a role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press for use with the Pathfinder Role Playing Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

Horns of ValhallaThe supplement is available from DriveThruRPG as a 23-page PDF for $3.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, four are the front matter, Contents and Open Game License and one is an ad. The PDF comes in two versions, one intended for print and high-end devices, one intended for low-end and mobile.

Horns of Valhalla has a general description of these items, which are able to summon the glorious dead to aid their user, their activation, use and destruction.

Variant Horns explains the supplement has six varieties of horns and that they can be crafted to better represent cultures and other things from their world. Four examples are given of these.

Additional Powers has a list of other powers a horn could have and their cost, as well as details on aligned, cursed and intelligent horns.

Arachne’s Horn is a new variant, one created by the drow, with powers, variants, additional powers, lore, legends and stats and sidebars for the summoned spiders. Following this are five more variants, all following the same format, these being the horn of the bow, which summons archers, the horn of the dead, which summons skeletal warriors, the horn of elemental fire, and an additional three elemental varieties, which all summon elementals, the horn of the hunt, which summons wolves and worgs, and finally the horn of Valhalla, which summons barbarians.

Reading Stat Blocks is a standard page for the publisher explaining how to use these.

Horns of Valhalla in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with everything except sidebars linked. The Contents only covers the main sections and is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of black and white stock illustrations. Presentation is decent.

This supplement greatly expands the options for a single magic item, providing new varieties and many variants as well as ways of customising each and each variant. Horns of Valhalla is a decent supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
