Frontiers of Space: Aliens of the Sonora Sector by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available from DrivethruRPG as a 26 page Pay What You Want PDF. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three pages are the front matter and three the Open Game License.
Game Master Information explains that the Sonora Sector is detailed in The Frontiers of Space and that this covers some of the alien races found there. Creation of PCs and NPCs should be done by the normal method.
The major alien races are then detailed. These are the Neoh’ham Collective, the Olonsean Empire, the Ilsunsi Directorate, the Qlansie and the Talamor Consortium. These sections primarily describe the aliens as interstellar polities, with home world and subsector. An overview of the alien race is followed by physiology, psychology, history, society, government and military. Possible patrons has six different adventure hooks and there are also six rumours related to each, some true, some false.
Finally, two other races are briefly mentioned, the Dhaldrids and the Raila. These only have a short paragraph describing them.
Aliens of the Sonora Sector in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough that these would have been useful. Navigation is poor. The text maintains a single column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of stock illustrations in different styles intended to illustrate the races. Presentation is adequate.
This is more a description of different interstellar polities than it is of different alien races. The races largely don’t have any differences from standard humans. The exception is the Olonseans, who have a habit of extracting their brains and sticking them in mechanical bodies, which means they are treated as having combat armour. Each polity has a decent overview and there are a decent number of adventure seeds and rumours when everything is combined. Frontiers of Space: Aliens of the Sonora Sector helps cover the Sonora Sector in more detail and it can be found by clicking here.
