Desiccated Temple of Locha

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Desiccated Temple of Locha

Desiccated Temple of Locha by Andrew Duvall is a role playing game supplement published by Sketchy Van RPG for use with Old-School Essentials. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 12-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $7.95 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, two the Open Game License and half the front matter.

Desiccated Temple of LochaThe Introduction explains that there was a fish-god called Locha back at the dawn of civilisation and nowadays all that remains of the faith is a single landlocked temple, the upper half of the statue that covers the entrance sticking out of a dried lake.

Ancient Aquatic Tomes is a set of three d10 tables comprised of adjective, subject and format, used to create books.

Hallucinogenic Spores is a d6 table of effects that can be caused by reading a tome.

Tension Dice are an alternative means of tracking time and wandering monsters, with more dice added to the Tension Pool as time progresses.

Wandering Monster Table is a d6 table of monsters.

The next two pages have an isometric map of the temple with the various locations indicated around it.

The page after is the full, unlabelled map of the temple.

Item Descriptions has some new magic items.

Occupants has monsters to find.

The next page has the original one-page dungeon.

The final page of content has paper miniatures for the creatures.

Desiccated Temple of Locha in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is short enough that these aren’t essential. Navigation is okay. The text is either single column or surrounding the map and appeared to be mostly free of errors. There are a variety of colour and black and white illustrations, up to full page in size. Presentation is good.

This is a simple, small dungeon that should be possible to drop into various settings and which will also work with various OSR systems without much difficulty. It is, however, expensive at full price, being essentially a one-page dungeon that has been developed a bit more and presented better. This is a decent small dungeon, but probably overpriced for what it is. Desiccated Temple of Locha can be found by clicking here.
