Delphi Council Dispatches Issue 2

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Delphi Council Dispatches Issue 2

Delphi Council Dispatches Issue 2 by Mark Malcolm, Stephan Pfuetze, Michael J. Roderick, Sr. and Michael J. Roderick, Jr. is a role playing game supplement published by Ulisses Spiele through the Ulisses Spiele Scriptorium Community Content Programme for use with Torg Eternity.

The supplement is available as a 35 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover, two the front matter and two are an ad.

Delphi Council Dispatches Issue 2The Introduction explains that a DCM Dispatch isn’t a full adventure with scripted encounters and scene structure, instead being a story prompt and other parts that can be used to develop a scenario. Each also comes with a survey to fill in afterwards that can be used to steer the overall campaign. There are some general rules on the scenarios, guidelines for making them and the different scenario elements. This is followed by a brief sample dispatch. Each has a title, code, the core of the mission, possible complications, suggested ideas for Cosm cards, connections and subplots, new stuff, survey links, survey questions, deadline (which is when the survey results and the change to influence things expire), tier, log sheet and rewards. They also explain any missions that the dispatch follows on from.

Burn the Witch is set in Salem where Orroshan occultists are planning to plant Nightmare Trees leading up to Halloween, which is raising the Magic Axiom with every tree, leading to events with mystical significance. This may tie in with the book A Trifling Matter but doesn’t have to.

In Flander’s Field is set in Belgium on Christmas Eve and may result in a temporary alliance, thanks to a temporary hardpoint, with the Inquisition to stop a cult.

Project Unity is set in the Blasted Lands in Tharkold where the Storm Knights are investigating after several gangs turned on their Delphi Council allies.

The Feast of Rek Stalek is set in the Living Land, where the Storm Knights are sent to investigate several kidnappings, which are tied to an upcoming feast.

Appendix A: New Stuff has some new threats and some new Perks used in the Dispatches.

Delphi Council Dispatches Issue 2 in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a two-column format and some minor errors were noticed. There are some stock colour images. Presentation is okay.

This is the second collection related to the Torganized Play programme, though the Dispatches will work fine on their own. These Dispatches are essentially standalone; they don’t really depend on other adventures or material to shape them, and the mentioned novel A Trifling Matter is only relevant if the GM decides to make it relevant. These aren’t adventures, and the GM will need to do work fleshing them out, but there is more material provided than a simple adventure hook.
