Beloved by Jospeh Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available as a 20 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter, one is blank and three the Open Game License.
The opening paragraphs explain that the wife of the new boss of a criminal cartel was killed by the police in a shootout – the adventure is set in the Frontiers of Space – and the body taken to a cryo facility. The characters are being hired to recover the body, because her husband believe she may be revivable.
Complications are things that are not known or which could go wrong.
Angelo Carratini is the employer.
Darla Carrarini is his dead wife.
Gene Granderson is a scientist with an experimental method of reviving the dead.
Cartel Promises is the, high, chance the cartel will try and kill the characters rather than pay them.
The Moon has some brief details on the moon where the cryo facility is located.
Encounters in the System has the chance of encountering a police ship.
Encounters on the Moon Surface has the chance of encountering a robot.
Encounters in the Facility is a 2d6 table of random encounters.
The Facility maps out the place, including details of other dead criminals stored at it.
SIPOL Agents on Site is a d6 table of police at the facility.
Robot Guards has stats for these.
Reviving Dead Bodies looks at the chance of the procedure working.
The Time Factor explains that the longer the wait, the lower the chance of a successful revival.
Does True Love Survive the Grave? has how to determine whether the procedure is successful.
Darla’s Outcome explains this is generally bad.
Cartel Team has the team that will be sent after the characters in lieu of payment.
Mission Completion explains that the object is to bring back the body in good condition and survive.
The final page of content has a map of the facility.
Beloved in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. Bar the map and covers, there are no illustrations. Presentation is okay.
This is one of those adventures that characters are honestly better off not doing. They are working for a criminal organisation known to regularly betray third party contractors, and will definitely annoy the police, even if they keep their identities secret. Beloved can be found by clicking here.
