At the Temple of the Toad

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement At the Temple of the Toad

At the Temple of the Toad by DE Productions is a role playing game supplement published by ARBEBBUG for use with MÖRK BORG.

The supplement is available as an 18 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover and one and a half the front matter.

At the Temple of the ToadThe Introduktion explains that this can be played standalone, but also as part of the series The Blessing of St. Rocco, which consists of A Grave Dispute, The Mouth of the Maw and The Baron’s Bitter Brew.

Why Are You Here? is a d6 table of reasons.

The words of the oracle has some fluff text.

Following this is a series of encounters until the characters reach the gates to the temple itself. They will then make their way through the temple until reaching the final confrontation. There is an option for the final encounter if this adventure is being played as part of The Blessing of St. Rocco.

At the Temple of the Toad in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with the various major sections linked. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of black and white illustrations. Presentation is decent.

Though the text appeared to be free of errors, in a number of places it takes its layout style from MÖRK BORG itself; this means that parts of the supplement are not easy to read. For an adventure certainly, it’s better to be inspired by MÖRK BORG’s style than to copy it. The adventure itself is extremely linear; the characters walk in an effectively straight line up a valley, then in a straight line through the temple; one encounter area follows another and you have to go each and every one to reach the end. This isn’t necessarily bad, but it is very linear. It does also work as a standalone, and it’s thematic for the game. At the Temple of the Toad can be found by clicking here.
