City of Mist Case: Demons in Cross End

Free Role Playing Game Supplement Review: City of Mist Case: Demons in Cross End

City of Mist Case: Demons in Cross End by Amít Moshe and Eran Aviram is a free role playing game supplement published by Son of Oak Game Studio for use with City of Mist.

The supplement is available as a 14-page PDF for free from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover, one the front matter and one is ads.

City of Mist Case: Demons in Cross EndDemons in Cross End is a case for City of Mist, the system’s term for adventures. It starts with the Background for the case, which is what’s really going on, with a church constructed centuries ago to apparently prevent the practices of the followers of the Stag Head, covered in a sidebar, from affecting the City, along with what really happened. One custodian remains at the church and she is trying to stop the growing influence of the Stag Head and its street gang known as the Beasts. There have been a number of murders recently in the area. Sidebars cover the City and using it in the real world, if desired, and some specifics on what the murderer is looking for.

Following on from this is the iceberg diagram, showing the different levels of the case and the connections between them. The case has three levels of depth, plus Depth 0, which has a couple of hooks to get the characters involved.

The three depths then cover the two places related to the two different hooks and what might be found at them, then various locations connected to the murders, then finally the confrontation at Halloween which may see the Stag Head taking form. The characters will have to decide whether they want this to happen, stop it from happening, which involves a difficult decision, or try to come up with a third option.

The Aftermath has a number of questions to answer depending on how the case turned out.

City of Mist Case: Demons in Cross End in Review

The PDF is well bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of colour illustrations, up to about half page in size, which look as if most if not all of them are custom. Presentation is good.

This is intended to be a standalone case, though depending on how the characters handle things, there may well be fallout from their decisions, leading to more related cases afterwards. In addition, the characters will quite possibly have to make a difficult choice, as the two main options for the final confrontation both have downsides.
