Free Role Playing Game Supplement Review: Behind Closed Doors at the Vandoi aka All About Fantasy Adult Entertainment

Behind Closed Doors at the Vandoi aka All About Fantasy Adult Entertainment by John Josten is a free role playing game supplement published by Board Enterprises. The supplement is part of the Small Bites series and this is the ‘World Walker’ version; the full version, available to Patreons. is just under double the length.

The supplement is available for free from DriveThruRPG as a 31-page PDF. One page is the front cover.

The Introduction takes up a full page, which is unusual, and repeatedly states that this supplement is not suitable for everyone and definitely not for children.

Behind Closed Doors at the Vandoi aka All About Fantasy Adult EntertainmentWhat is the Vandoi? covers the place, which is an aldar-run (dark elves, essentially) resort that caters to aldar, humans and elves. In this section is its history, how it works, the different levels of guests, services that are available, overview of the different levels and what can be found on them – the hotel is largely below ground. This is perhaps the most extensive description of a single place in the entire series. The Vandoi could be considered to be the ultimate Las Vegas resort, if things such as morals and legality were completely chucked out of the window.

Fletnern Wiki has extracts from the wiki connected to the Vandoi. There are businesses, entertainment, sites and individuals.

The Sounding Board is a collection of blog posts related to the issue’s topic. The first is Who’s in your sex cult? which considers two types of cults.

Does LGBT belong in Gaming? is an opinion piece.

Carousing has three different ways of having fun.

Lifestyles of the Magical and Mundane is briefer than usual and is on the hotel’s staff.

News of Fletnern starts with Travelling, which is on getting to the Vandoi.

Headquarters Move explains that the owners of the Vandoi, the Huy Vandonte Cartel, is moving their headquarters to the hotel.

The Good Life starts with Aldar Culture; the aldar do not differentiate as much between sexes as other races. Cuisine is on what the aldar eat, with some related history. Vandoi Personnel is on the people who work there.

Slang & Superstition is on a superstition that people believe, yet know is inaccurate.

Optional Rules has some Legend Quest rules related to the topic.

Monsters & Other Menaces describes the aldar. Characters with Character has people who could be encountered at the Vandoi.

What’s Missing? is two pages long and explains what is in the full version

In Conclusion wraps it up, as well as having various links.

Following this are a List of Venues at the Vandoi, with their names, types and what they do. Then there is a list of Huy Vandonte partners, with their names, current positions, announced positions and personalities.

Behind Closed Doors at the Vandoi aka All About Fantasy Adult Entertainment in Review

The PDF is decently bookmarked, with major and minor sections linked. The Table of Contents is less thorough, but is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column black and white format and appeared to be nearly free of errors. There are a number of stick and public domain black and white images. Presentation is okay.

As is typical in this series, the supplement is a collection of generally related material on a theme. In this issue, the articles are more on topic than in others, and there is a lengthy piece on the main place covered. The warning in the Introduction should be heeded; this issue covers adult topics and is not suitable for everyone. The topics are covered reasonably well, but those who may be offended, or shouldn’t read on the subject, should perhaps avoid this issue. Behind Closed Doors at the Vandoi aka All About Fantasy Adult Entertainment is a collection of more mature articles and it can be downloaded for free by clicking here.
