9 Ghouls by Jacob Klünder is a role playing game supplement published by White Wolf for use with Vampire: The Masquerade through the Storytellers Vault Community Content Programme.
The supplement is available as a 12-page PDF for free from Storytellers Vault. One page is the front cover, two are the front matter and one is the contents.
The Introduction explains that ghouls, whether those of characters or those of NPCs, can often just be faceless entities, merely resources on a character sheet. This supplement has nine ghouls that have been fleshed out in more detail and all created using the rules from Ghouls & Revenants, though that book is not needed to use this supplement.
The ghouls themselves are then described. Each is given a name and their area of speciality, such as troubleshooter or fixer, together with background details, game stats and an image. The ghouls cover a range of personalities and areas of expertise, and their descriptions give motivations for what they do, from wanting to become a vampire themselves to simply preferring being a bodyguard for creatures who don’t die as easily.
9 Ghouls in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is short enough that it doesn’t need them. The contents are not thorough. Navigation is adequate. The text maintains a two-column format and some minor errors were noticed. There are a number of black and white stock illustrations, up to full page in size, and having an illustration for each ghoul is good, even if they are stock. Presentation is decent.
Though it isn’t specified, the supplement is probably aimed at the V20 version of Vampire: The Masquerade.
The supplement has exactly what it says; nine ghouls that are covered in more detail so that they are not merely resources but characters in their own right. Moreover, the supplement is free. This makes it a nice little resource to use in-game, whether to make players’ or NPCs’ ghouls more interesting. 9 Ghouls is definitely recommended and it can be found by clicking here.
