I Want To Be A WIZARD! – Headmaster’s Primer by Jim Milligan is a role playing game supplement published by Evil Robot Games for use with I Want To Be A WIZARD! As a result, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available as a 15-page PDF for $4.99 from DriveThruRPG but was purchased at a reduced price during a sale. One page is the front cover, half the Table of Contents and front matter and one the Open Game License. An additional, single page PDF has a map of the Barrow-Mann Academy.
Hello, Headmasters! explains that the Small Core version of the Power Core RPG was taken to make a simple RPG, and feedback resulted in this supplement being published to answer some questions and provide extra tools.
Wizarding FAQ is a series of questions and answers regarding to various items of gameplay.
Adventures on Demand has an adventure generator with three 2d6 tables to generate hook, line and sinker. The hook draws in the characters, the line pulls them deeper and the sinker is the end goal. There are also four sample adventure ideas made using the generator.
Encounter Pacing looks at how many Encounters to have, which depends on what the GM is trying to achieve. It considers how many a GM might want, then how to break them up and that not every part of the school year needs an encounter.
The Opposition looks at different kinds of opponents that characters will encounter, from the temporary to the main villain, with some examples of these. It also looks at what to do if an Opponent knocks out the entire party.
Friends and Allies are naturally the counterpart to Opponents.
Creatures Great and Small is a small bestiary of sample creatures to encounter, with names, descriptions and stats.
The Barrow-Mann Academy details a sample school, with a description of the place and its history, a map, details of the various locations and some NPCs.
Barriers, the Sport of Atlantis describes a sport played by students of the academy.
The Mirror Network details the network of magical mirrors used to get from place to place.
I Want To Be A WIZARD! – Headmaster’s Primer in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with major sections linked. The Table of Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. Bar the cover and map, there are no illustrations. Presentation is okay.
This isn’t so much a coherent whole as it is a collection of useful resources for any GM wanting to run a game of I Want To Be A WIZARD!, from some sample monsters, to tips, to the sample academy and some worldbuilding, much of which is clearly inspired by Harry Potter. I Want To Be A WIZARD! – Headmaster’s Primer is a useful addition for the game and it can be found by clicking here.
