Yalkoth Settlement by Dave Woodrum is a generic role playing game supplement published by Fishwife Games.
The supplement is available as a ten-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $2.95 but was purchased at a reduced price during a sale. One page is the front cover and two pages are full page maps of the settlement, a labelled one for GMs and an unlabelled one for players.
The Introduction gives some details on the settlement’s location and history and that it is a space age answer to the fantasy village where characters can get supplies and clues. The settlement is intended to be usable in most space opera settings.
Map Locations is the rest of the supplement. This section describes the 44 different locations that can be found, from residential to business to industrial to entertainment etc. Each location is given a brief paragraph with, in some cases, suggestions as to how they can be used. There are also a number of d6-based tables for generating random building occupants, companies and encounters.
Yalkoth Settlement in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is of a type where they wouldn’t have been much use. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a single column format and appeared to be free of errors. As well as the maps, there are a couple of stock black and white illustrations and a small blank area for game conversion notes. Presentation is okay.
Given the use of the d6, this does feel like it’s intended to be used with Traveller and similar games but, given there are no stats, it should be easy enough to use with any system. Though the settlement isn’t covered in great detail, there’s enough to make it usable. There are no overt adventure hooks for the settlement – a list of rumours would have been a useful addition – but some can be come up with from the descriptions. Yalkoth Settlement is a decent little settlement supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
