Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #5: Domesticated Creatures is a role playing game supplement published by Skirmisher Publishing for use with the Mutant Future system. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. The Wisdom from the Wastelands series introduces new options for Mutant Future and this one is a bestiary of new creatures.
The supplement is available as a seven-page PDF on DriveThruRPG for $0.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the Open Game License and front matter and one is ads.
The opening paragraphs explain that the supplement contains ten new creatures that the inhabitants of the post-apocalyptic wastes make use of.
Big Teeth are massive walruses, with tusks large enough that they can be hollowed out and lived in. They are used as a form of transport and protection.
Dangling Gourds are floating vine masses that drop explosive fruit but are large enough for a few hundred human-sized creatures to live in.
Hydroses create water every day.
Jellybirds are mutant sparrows with soft skeletons and the entire body is edible.
Lemming Grass is a peculiar plant with mobile grain kernels like small rodents.
The Monitor Serpent is a mutant monitor lizard used as transportation and can share oxygen with other creatures.
Philly’s Stone is a plant with a high mineral content used for protection and food.
Ranas are giant frogs that are dangerous to control and mostly used as food by the desperate.
Leafy Sandstone is a carnivorous vine used to turn sand into sandstone.
Tarry Maple is a poisonous carnivorous plant whose leaves are edible and full of blood.
Finally, there are two new mutations. Alter physical state allows the physical state of matter to be changed without altering its temperature. Alter soil consistency allows the density and strength of soil to be changed.
Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #5: Domesticated Creatures in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with major sections linked. There is a short table of contents that links most of the creatures. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be mostly free of errors. Each creature is illustrated with a tweaked stock photo. Presentation is adequate.
This is what it sets out to be; a bestiary of ten new, sometimes dangerous, mutant creatures, all of which have uses and some of which will be raised domestically as a result. Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #5: Domesticated Creatures is a decent bestiary and it can be found by clicking here.
