Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #45: Mutant Dinosaurs is a role playing game supplement published by Skirmisher Publishing for use with the Mutant Future system. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License though no parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. The Wisdom from the Wastelands series introduces new options for Mutant Future and this one is a bestiary of creatures.
The supplement is available as a seven-page PDF on DriveThruRPG for $0.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the Open Game License and front matter and one is ads.
The opening paragraphs explain that the Ancients created or recreated many new species, and dinosaurs were naturally one of these. Some of the created dinosaurs did not survive, as they required cybernetic implants to keep creatures even more massive than the originals alive, but smaller ones did. These dinosaurs were given biotech intended to stop them from mutating, but occasionally this failed. As a result, many dinosaurs have mutation modifiers from Issue #20.
Bloody Jaws used to be miniature T. rexes used in combat rings, but after the apocalypse they grew significantly larger. They heal rapidly and have a skin condition that makes them revolting to look at.
Fire Eaters are dinosaurs that have symbiotic nanotech inside them that allows them to consume fire and use it to grow in size and additional limbs.
King Bats are reptilian in origin and can fly as well as generate an energy ray.
Ship Spears are dinosaurs that can fly, though not very fast, and also swim, though not very well, and sometimes end up damaging ships.
Scaly Worms are a type of dinosaur that mutated by having their eyelids fuse, which makes it difficult for them to see.
Sand Sharks are peaceful grazers during the day but turn into subterranean horrors at night that swim through the earth hunting prey.
Twig Swarms are small dinosaurs that live in trees, pouncing on prey that passes beneath.
New Modifier is Chaos, which has a random effect due to mental energies warping reality.
New Mutation has one new mutation, the loss of a non-vital trait.
Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #45: Mutant Dinosaurs in Review
The PDF is bookmarked, with major sections linked. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are some stock tweaked colour images. Presentation is okay.
Given how the dinosaurs are resistant to mutation, they do not diverge from the norm as much as some creatures, though all are different in some way, and some more so than others. This supplement has a collection of the ever-popular dinosaur in new varieties to use in a game. Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #45: Mutant Dinosaurs can be found by clicking here.
