Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #34: Plant Mutants I

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #34: Plant Mutants I

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #34: Plant Mutants I is a role playing game supplement published by Skirmisher Publishing for use with the Mutant Future system. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License though no parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. The Wisdom from the Wastelands series introduces new options for Mutant Future and this one is essentially a bestiary of creatures.

The supplement is available as a seven-page PDF on DriveThruRPG for $0.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the Open Game License and front matter and one is ads.

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #34: Plant Mutants IThe opening paragraphs explain that the core game is rather poor on plant mutants, and that this supplement intends to help with that. It then goes into some real-world botany to give GMs some idea as to how plants work.

Howling Birch/Knife Fly is a type of tree with a sonic weapon and flowers that can fly and seek animals hosts for their seeds.

Sea Elders/Sand Sprouts are trees that are protected by vegetative mines that can be harvested, and which are motile in seedling form.

Slime Wheat is a type of fungus that is a rampaging blob monster.

Cliff Chickweed is a plant that works like an electrical generator, which makes it valuable to the technologically-minded.

Ice Lichen is an aggressive, ice-forming lichen that can split off parts.

Master Maple is an enormous conglomeration of willow trees as large as a hill.

New Mutations has four new plant-themed mutations, including one that allows the original creature to bud off smaller creatures.

The PDF is bookmarked, with major sections linked. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be almost free of errors. There are some stock tweaked colour images. Presentation is okay.

This is essentially another collection of new monsters for Mutant Future, all around a theme and that theme is plants. The monsters tend towards the larger and more dangerous, even if they aren’t actively hostile. Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #34: Plant Mutants I is a decent collection of creatures and it can be found by clicking here.
