Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #32: Shapeshifters

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #32: Shapeshifters

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #32: Shapeshifters is a role playing game supplement published by Skirmisher Publishing for use with the Mutant Future system. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License though no parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. The Wisdom from the Wastelands series introduces new options for Mutant Future and this one is essentially a bestiary of creatures.

The supplement is available as a seven-page PDF on DriveThruRPG for $0.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the Open Game License and front matter and one is ads.

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #32: ShapeshiftersThe opening paragraphs discuss shapeshifters, how this can be done using existing and new mutations and how the stat blocks were designed.

Bad Bunny is grass that turns into cannibalistic rabbits during droughts.

Cheese Worms are enormous earthworms that dig large pits and also turn into cattle.

Desert Spark is a cactus that becomes a small sage plant when water runs low and uses electricity to start fires.

Forest Elephants are small elephants that can take the form of a chickenwolf.

Kelp Turtles are either kelp or turtles.

Killer Palms shrink in size, grow spines and roll around their base.

Meat Foxes start off as foxes to eat the animals in an area, then turn into goats to eat everything bar trees and soil.

Oartails are patches like milfoil that change into crushing vines.

Rain of Death are trees that turn into wooden blimps that carpet bomb areas where it wants to grow.

Rooting Cow is a cow that can transform into a muskrat.

Shell Roots are plants that can change into robots and prey on robots.

Swamp Sedge is a plant that transforms into a dangerous willow tree.

New Mutations has mutations used by the creatures, including new ones to change shape.

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #32: Shapeshifters in Review

The PDF is bookmarked, with major sections linked. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are some stock tweaked colour images. Presentation is okay.

This is essentially another bestiary, but a rather unusual one. Shapeshifters are not an uncommon idea, but these shapeshifters can change between plant and animal and are often have completely different forms, often of vastly different sizes, ones that would never be guessed are the same creature. Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #32: Shapeshifters has a truly bizarre collection of mutants and it can be found by clicking here.
