Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #29: Mutualists I

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #29: Mutualists I

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #29: Mutualists I is a role playing game supplement published by Skirmisher Publishing for use with the Mutant Future system. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License though no parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. The Wisdom from the Wastelands series introduces new options for Mutant Future and this one is essentially a bestiary of creatures.

The supplement is available as a seven-page PDF on DriveThruRPG for $0.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the Open Game License and front matter and one is ads.

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #29: Mutualists IThe opening paragraph explains that some species exhibit cooperative behaviour, to varying degrees, and the creatures in this supplement cooperate with each other.

Active Coral and Coral Eel. Active Coral is a predatory brain coral that naturally can’t physically move. The Coral Eel drives away fish trying to feed on the coral and live inside it.

Big Bass and Shore Forager Shrimp. Big Bass are enormous freshwater bass, which don’t eat the Shore Forager Shrimp unless there’s no other food.

Black Mush, Harpy, Wall Rat and Slimy Skaken. Black Mush solves the problem of underground ruins – there’s nothing to eat – by being a food source, and is both prey and, when large enough, predator. Harpies feed on insects and rodents drawn to the mush, but can also bring such to them. Wall Rats are large rodents that graze on Black Mush, avoiding it when it turns carnivorous. Slimy Skaken is a salamander that has a sweet odour that draws other creatures for the mush to feed on.

Earth Lord and Cluck. Earth Lords are huge earthworms that drive insects and animals to the surface where other creatures feed on them. Clucks are mutant chickens that are one of these creatures.

Sardine Fishman and Green Fuzzy Fly. Sardine Fishmen are similar to those in the core book, but not as unfriendly and live far from land. Green Fuzzy Flies are raised by them.

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #29: Mutualists I in Review

The PDF is bookmarked, with major sections linked. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be almost free of errors. There are some stock tweaked colour images. Presentation is okay.

This is another bestiary, with this time the theme being creatures that live together, with varying degrees of relationship; finding one species makes it highly likely another will; be encountered as well. Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #29: Mutualists I has some decent new creatures and it can be found by clicking here.
