Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #25: Metamorphosis I is a role playing game supplement published by Skirmisher Publishing for use with the Mutant Future system. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License though no parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. The Wisdom from the Wastelands series introduces new options for Mutant Future and this one is essentially a bestiary of creatures.
The supplement is available as a seven-page PDF on DriveThruRPG for $0.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the Open Game License and front matter and one is ads.
The opening paragraph explains that creatures that undergo metamorphosis can have two very different forms, even though they are the same species. The creatures use different mutations to do this, including a new one and a concept from Issue #20.
The monsters follow; each has two forms.
Dashing Seed/Beach Needle are a type of mutant spruce that grows horizontally.
Bear, Grub/Bear, Termite are a type of bear whose young is a grub.
Orbital Flora/Cannon Tree is an unusual creature, as the seedling is actually larger; it grows in orbit though the tree grows on the ground.
Yellow Man/Cave Slug are gastropods whose larval form is humanoid.
Scaled Ape/Clubtail are a type of intelligent ankylosaurs whose young resembles a scaly ape and is a violent carnivore who even attacks its adult form.
Stone Eater/Crystal Scorpion is a huge scorpion whose two forms are similar.
Arboreal Slug/Racing Spider is a huge wolf spider that grows from a centipede-like larva,
Ewl, Larva/Ewl, Adult are humans exposed to pollen from the sandslug tree; the adult form loses most of its intelligence and becomes vicious.
New Mutations has three new mutations used by the creatures.
Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #25: Metamorphosis I in Review
The PDF is bookmarked, with major sections linked. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be almost free of errors. There are some stock tweaked colour images. Presentation is okay.
This is essentially a bestiary with a difference; each creature has two forms. Interestingly, the different forms of the same creature may not get along with each other, and larval forms are not necessarily smaller, or less dangerous, than adult forms. Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #25: Metamorphosis I has some interesting new creatures for Mutant Future and it can be found by clicking here.
