Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #20: Mutation Modifiers

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #20: Mutation Modifiers

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #20: Mutation Modifiers is a role playing game supplement published by Skirmisher Publishing for use with the Mutant Future system. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License though no parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. The Wisdom from the Wastelands series introduces new options for Mutant Future and this one has some new options for creatures.

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #20: Mutation ModifiersThe supplement is available as a seven-page PDF on DriveThruRPG for $0.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the Open Game License and front matter and one is ads.

The opening paragraphs explain that a single change to a stock creature can make a big difference and that mutation modifiers can have a similar effect on mutational powers. How modifiers are gained is different, with some modifiers, such as Tech, gained and lost without much overall change, whilst Grafted is a bigger difference.

There then follows a table of 60 modifiers, rolled on by using a d6 and a d10. These are at most a paragraph in length and are not significant changes, but can make a difference; for example, a Touch modifier makes ranged attacks now melee.

Alternate Mutation Modifiers has another seven modifiers, similar to the ones in the table. They are presented as alternate options, but it might be there were more ideas than the table had space.

Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #20: Mutation Modifiers in Review

The PDF is bookmarked, with major sections linked. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be almost free of errors. There are some stock tweaked colour images. Presentation is okay.

This is a supplement that’s simple in concept but which adds a lot of options to make mutants different. Just using one can result in a quite different creature, and if a creature has more than one mutational power, there could be a lot of differences if each is modified. Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue #20: Mutation Modifiers is a decent supplement with a decent range of options and it can be found by clicking here.
