A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Wilderness Dressing: Woodlands (P1)

Wilderness Dressing: Woodlands (P1) by Mike Welham is a role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 15-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $3.45 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, two are ads, one the front matter and Contents and one the Open Game License. The PDF comes in two versions, one intended for print and high-end devices, one intended for low-end and mobile.

Woodlands has a brief paragraph on them.

Minor Woodlands Events is a d100 table of minor events to encounter.

Uneventful Day’s Travel is a d100 table with ten results of essentially days with nothing important happening.

Campsites is a d100 table with ten results of campsites to find and use.

Woodland Dressing is a d100 table with things to dress a woodland area.

Random Woodland Encounters is a d12 table of random encounters.

Wilderness Dressing: Woodlands (P1) in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with the major sections linked. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There is a single full page black and white illustration. Presentation is decent.

This is another in the Remastered range and has something common to many of these supplements. The Woodland Features table from the original, which has rules for woodland regions, has been replaced with Campsites and Uneventful Day’s Travel. This, combined with the fact that there are few Pathfinder stats bar the Random Woodland Encounters table, makes this much more system neutral. The latter table should not be used as a random table, as, as usual, the chance of meeting a powerful monster, a rakshasa, is the same as that for encountering a bugbear and three goblins.
