Wilderness Dressing: Extreme Weather

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Wilderness Dressing: Extreme Weather

Wilderness Dressing: Extreme Weather by Mike Welham is a role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

Wilderness Dressing: Extreme WeatherThe supplement is available as a 13-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $3.75 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, two the front matter and Contents and one is the Open Game License. The PDF comes in two versions, one designed for print and high-end devices, the other for mobile and low-end devices.

Table A: Rainstorms starts with a paragraph describing rainstorms in general, before following on with three d20 tables. These are Rainstorm Description, Rainstorm Events and Rainstorm Hooks & Complications.

Table B: Snowstorms is similar and covers snowstorms.

Table C: Windstorms is again similar, this time covering windstorms.

Running Storms has three sections, one for each type of storm. Each section has details on various effects of the storm type and the game effects that these can have, from reduced visibility to dangerous cold to it being very difficult to fly.

Wilderness Dressing: Extreme Weather in Review

The PDF is well bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. The Contents only covers the major sections, but is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There is a single piece of black and white stock art. Presentation is okay.

This is a surprisingly good collection of material. Each of the three sections on storms, and the section on running them, emphasise one point; storms can be as dangerous as any monster, if not more so, because you can’t kill them to stop the damage. The two dressing tables range from interesting to dangerous and the hooks and complications tables include what are essentially adventure and encounter hooks. Wilderness Dressing: Extreme Weather is a useful collection of material and it can be found by clicking here.
