Wilderness Dressing: Deserts (P1) Remastered

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Wilderness Dressing: Deserts (P1) Remastered

Wilderness Dressing: Deserts (P1) Remastered by Brian Wiborg Mønster is a role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

Wilderness Dressing: Deserts (P1) RemasteredThe supplement is available as a 13-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $3.75 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, two are ads, one the front matter and Contents and one the Open Game License. The PDF comes in two versions, one intended for print and high-end devices, one intended for low-end and mobile.

Deserts has a brief paragraph on how these are more than bland locales.

Minor Desert Events is a d100 table of minor events to see in a desert.

Desert Dressing is another d100 table, this time of minor dressing features.

Uneventful Day’s Travel is a d100 table with 20 uneventful things to happen.

Campsites is a d100 table with 20 campsites.

Random Desert Encounters is a d12 table of random encounters.

Wilderness Dressing: Deserts (P1) Remastered in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with the major sections linked. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a couple of black and white stock illustrations up to full page in size. Presentation is decent.

All the events in Random Desert Encounters have the same chance of happening, whether these be a couple of gnolls or an adult blue dragon. This table should not be rolled on randomly. Unlike many of the remastered versions, there are some notable differences between this and the original supplement. The Desert Terrain Features section has been removed and replaced with the Uneventful Day’s Travel and Campsites tables. This also has the effect of making this supplement even more generic than the original; there are only a handful of footnotes for the tables with actual Pathfinder mechanics and the removed section was the one with the most relevance to Pathfinder, making this useful for many systems. The differences between this and the original supplement may make it worth picking up for those that own the latter, though not at full price.
