A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Weekly Wonders – Unfinished Business

Weekly Wonders – Unfinished Business by Alex Riggs and Joshua Zaback is a role playing game supplement published by Necromancers of the Northwest for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

This is a nine page PDF that is available from DriveThruRPG for $1.49 but was purchased at a greatly reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one page is the front matter and one the Open Game License.

The brief Introduction states that ghost can be compelling monsters and they can be simulated with a variety of interesting powers but the ghost itself may be uninteresting. This supplement contains five seeds to help with this.

Weekly Wonders - Unfinished BusinessEach seed follows a standard format; Background, Ghostly Activities and Lay to Rest. The first ghost is a father who remained behind after death to take care of his now-orphaned son, but he became cruel as a result, attacking threats to his son, real or not.

The second is a woman who, when her sister had her soul imprisoned by a witch, attempted to recover enough gold from a dragon to buy her release, but failed and was killed. She now looks for hoard after hoard, the reason for her actions forgotten.

The third is a young girl, the only individual to go down with a ship when it sank. Now she haunts the seas in the ghost ship, finding new crewmembers and dragging them to the bottom.

Next is a royal wizard who was tasked to find a magical way of stopping time for the king, but was murdered by the king’s son to prevent this. He continues his research after death.

The final ghost is a beautiful woman who rejected suitor after suitor until finally she fell in love with a man – who in turn chose her younger sister over her.

Each ghost behaves in a different manner and each has a different way to lay it to rest.

Weekly Wonders – Unfinished Business in Review

The PDF is decently bookmarked for its length with the major sections linked. The text maintains a two column colour format and no errors were noticed. There is a single colour stock illustration. Presentation is okay.

This may be a supplement intended for the Pathfinder game, but there are almost no game mechanics in it; a couple of knowledge checks and references to spells. Most of it is background material. So it can easily be used with many different game systems. It might have been interesting to have the ghost presented with their stats and powers, rather than just background. So, this supplement can be used to add colour to most games but will need actual ghosts creating for Pathfinder, which it is aimed at. The written material is very nice though. Weekly Wonders – Unfinished Business is an interesting collection of backgrounds for ghosts and it can be found by clicking here.
