A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Weekly Wonders – Secret Spirits

Weekly Wonders – Secret Spirits by Alex Riggs and Joshua Zaback is a role playing game supplement published by Necromancers of the Northwest for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as an eight-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $1.49 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one the front matter and one the Open Game License.

Weekly Wonders - Secret SpiritsThe supplement describes three new spirits for shamans, a class that was first introduced in the Advanced Class Guide; a summary of what the supplement contains is only available on the back page as the book itself goes straight into describing the three spirits. Each spirit follows a similar format.

Ravages starts by explaining that a shaman who chooses this spirit is never beautiful, though they are not ugly, as working with such magics takes a toll. The spirit magic spells and hexes are harmful ones, related to diseases, poisoning and other afflictions, and the spirit animal looks diseased. The spirit protects the shaman from afflictions and the shaman can also inflict secondary symptoms on targets. The end result is the shaman becomes a master of diseases and poisons.

Rest explains that shamans who choose this spirit are often easy-going and laid back. The spells and hexes are related to rest, dreams, tranquillity and sleep. The spirit animal is also restful and laid back. The spirit allows a shaman to store power and recover quickly and the end result is the ability to afflict creatures with extreme lethargy,

Time says that shaman who devote themselves to this spirit and precise and meticulous in their actions. The spirit magic and hexes are created to time and delaying things. The spirit animal varies between manic energy and slothfulness. The spirit grants the ability to move around and see in time and the end result is being able to reverse the flow of time.

The PDF is bookmarked with the various sections linked. Navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are no illustrations. Presentation is adequate.

This supplement is exactly what it seems to be; a collection of three new spirits for the shaman class, each with different abilities and reasons for choosing. There is a potential worry with the Time spirit, as temporal abilities often run the risk of being unbalancing. Weekly Wonders – Secret Spirits can be found by clicking here.
