Vathak Grimoires: The Drowning Ceremony by Jason Keeley is a role playing game supplement published by Fat Goblin Games for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available as an 11-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $3.41 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the front cover, one the front matter, one the Contents and one the Open Game License.
The first page has some background fluff about the discovery of the grimoire and how it was originally created by a skum wizard.
Spells has ten new spells, ranging from level 2 to level 8. The spells are of a range of types, though as all were inspired by a Great Old One, they tend towards the cosmic horror, and all being penned by a skum lead to water themes being common.
New Feats has two new feats.
Spellbook has details on the grimoire itself, with a description, its caster level, value, preparation ritual and spells in it, both those in this supplement and others.
Vathak Grimoires: The Drowning Ceremony in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with major sections linked. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and some minor errors were noticed. There is a single colour illustration. Presentation is okay.
New spells are always welcome but some of these seem to be less than well designed. It’s also odd that a spellbook called the Drowning Ceremony has no ceremony of drowning in it. The fluff at the beginning links it to the Shadows Over Vathak setting, but it would be easy enough to drop it into another with minor changes.
