Urban Locale #02: Sage’s Study by Creighton Broadhurst is a generic role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press.
The supplement is available as a 7-page PDF for $1.75 from DriveThruRPG but was purchased at a reduced price thanks to a special offer. The supplement comes in two versions, a plaintext file and a PDF. Two pages are the front and rear covers, two pages are ads and about half a page is the front matter and Contents.
Using this Urban Locale is a standard piece explaining how to use the lists and what each list covers. This is followed by a brief paragraph on sages, then the d10 lists.
1: The Sage’s Study has ten descriptions of locations for the sage, as well as the sages being named and given their alignment, species, sex and age.
2: Major Locale Features has larger pieces of study dressing.
3: Minor Locale Features is similar but smaller.
4: What’s Going On? has ten events.
5: Visitors & Customers has ten NPCs to meet, each named, given their alignment, species and sex as well as what advice they are after.
6: What’s For Sale? has ten things to buy, each named, given a price if it’s fixed and described.
Urban Locale #01: Dockside Tavern in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with the various sections linked. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are no illustrations. Presentation is adequate.
The second entry in this series is better than the first, as the tables are more thematic in nature. It provides some brief tables for creating a random sage for characters to meet. This is the sort of supplement that might be helped by additional ones; sages deal in knowledge and tables with the sort of knowledge, or books to find, would perhaps be helpful additions.
