Urban Locale #01: Dockside Tavern by Creighton Broadhurst is a generic role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press.
The supplement is available as a 7-page PDF for $1.75 from DriveThruRPG but was purchased at a reduced price thanks to a special offer. The supplement comes in two versions, a plaintext file and a PDF. Two pages are the front and rear covers, two pages are ads and about half a page is the front matter and Contents.
Using this Urban Locale is a standard piece explaining how to use the lists and what each list covers. This is followed by a brief paragraph on taverns, then the d10 lists.
1: The Dockside Tavern has ten different taverns, each named and given a brief description.
2: Major Locale Features has ten features for the tavern, mostly thematic for something by the sea.
3: Minor Locale Features is similar but more minor features and most would be usable for any tavern, not just one on the docks.
4: What’s Going On has ten different things to happen, most minor. Again, many would work for any tavern, though some will need a minor adjustment.
5: Vistors and Customers has ten briefly described NPCs, with names, alignment, species and sex.
6: What’s For Sale has ten different things to buy, a few of them tied to the sea.
Urban Locale #01: Dockside Tavern in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with the various sections linked. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are no illustrations. Presentation is adequate.
This is the first entry in this series and it’s intended to create an urban location that doesn’t need covering in a whole lot of depth. In this case, the location is a tavern by the docks, but a lot of them will work for just about any tavern. This makes the supplement more broadly useful but less thematic. Still, it can be used to quickly generate an adequate location on the fly. Urban Locale #01: Dockside Tavern can be found by clicking here.
