Urban Dressing: Alleyways by Brian Liberge is a role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available as a 14-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $2.45 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one is an ad, three the front matter, Contents and Foreword and one is the Open Game License. The PDF comes in two versions, one designed for print and high-end devices, the other for mobile and low-end devices.
The supplement is intended to create alleys in an urban setting and consists of a variety of options.
A: Alleyway Appearance is a d100 table giving details on the alley, with width, either 5′ or 10′, a general description and some dressing, such as rubble, debris and people.
B: Alleyway Names is a d100 list with 100 names.
C: Hooks, Complications and Rumours is a d20 table of things or events for the alley.
D: Encounters is a d12 list of encounters; there are some similarities to the previous table, but all the encounters are NPCs or creatures.
E: Associated NPC has 20 NPCs to encounter in the alleys, each of which is given a name, alignment, class and level, appearance, personality, mannerisms and hooks.
Urban Dressing: Alleyways in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. The Contents is less thorough but is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and it appeared almost free of errors. There are a number of pieces of black and white stock art. Presentation is decent.
This is a useful collection of tables to make alleyways more interesting; something that might have improved it would be a table of alleyway dressing. There is some dressing, but it’s all built into the first table, whereas some dressing usable anywhere would have been nice. Urban Dressing: Alleyways is a decent little supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
