Tribes Most Foul: Orcs

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Tribes Most Foul: Orcs

Tribes Most Foul: Orcs by Ben Kent is a role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 14-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $1.99 although it was purchased at a greatly reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one page is an ad, two pages are the front matter, one is the Contents, Stat Blocks by CR and Foreword, one on Reading Stat Blocks and one the Open Game License. The PDF comes in two versions, one optimised for print and high-end devices, the other for screen and mobile.

Tribes Most Foul: OrcsAs with other supplements in the Tribes Most Foul series, this covers three tribes, all orcs. Each tribe follows a similar layout, with a brief introductory paragraph, society & organisation, ecology & lair, combat & tactics, notable personalities and tribal lore, together with sidebars covering the tribal roster and one using the tribe in the GM’s campaign.

The Orcs of the Bear’s Hide are a group that live in caves along with bears and owlbears. These orcs are generally less aggressive but a new leader has been pushing them to expand. However, the leader has no control over the owlbears and therefore cannot do as he wishes.

The Orcs of the Shattered Shield live in seaside caves and are formed from the remnants of a would-be horde. They are led by the son of the horde’s dead leader, who is far smarter. Internal disputes within the tribe more often end with the breaking of a shield rather than death.

The Orcs of the Silver Backs are jungle dwelling savages who are constantly moving around. Their nominal leader is an awakened dire orc but the true leader is the orc druid who awakened him. The tribe is brutal and those who cannot keep up are left to die.

Tribes Most Foul: Orcs in Review

The PDF is well bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. The Contents is less thorough but is hyperlinked. Navigation is very good given the length. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be almost free of errors. There is a single piece of black and white stock art together with emblems for all three tribes. Presentation is decent.

The three orc tribes depicted here are definitely different. There’s a normally less aggressive tribe that is heading for a leadership conflict, a group of orcs led by a smarter leader with the aid of his witch sister that is careful not to waste tribe members and a group of brutal savages who care for no-ones’ life, not even other members. Tribes Most Foul: Orcs is a nice little supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
