A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Treasury of the Sands (PFRPG)

Treasury of the Sands (PFRPG) is a role playing game supplement published by Jon Brazer Enterprises for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. This is a collection of new Ancient Egyptian-themed magic items, written for the Mummy’s Mask Adventure Path but suitable for any such setting.

Treasury of the Sands (PFRPG)The supplement is available from DriveThruRPG for $3.95 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. It comes with a PDF and Hero Lab files. The PDF has 16 pages, two being the front and rear covers, one the front matter and one the Open Game License.

The Introduction explains that the work is a collection from many different authors.

The magic items follow, and there are twenty-one in total, arranged in alphabetical order. There are many different types of items available, covering a range of costs. Notable ones are crocodile scale, which not only allows the wearer to swim, but can also grow a tail to slap enemies with. The golden tub of youth helps slow the effects of aging for those who bathe in it in milk. The sarcophagus of the soul’s return allows the mummified pharaoh within to return once a year on the day of their death.

Treasury of the Sands (PFRPG) in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with every item linked. Navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column colour format and appeared to be free of errors. There are three illustrations of items that appear to be custom, plus some appropriate filler. Presentation is decent.

The items are only in alphabetical order, not by type. In fact, no item’s type is given; they have to be inferred from the requirements. At the very least, a table summarising the items, divided by type, would have been useful. This is a bit of a comfort detriment. There are a wide range of different items, making this a useful addition to any Ancient Egyptian campaign. Treasury of the Sands (PFRPG) can be found by clicking here.
