Torg Eternity – The Fires of Ra by Brian Reeves and Darrell Hayhurst is a role playing game supplement published by Ulisses Spiele for use with Torg Eternity. This is an adventure set in the Nile Empire.
The supplement is available as a PDF from DriveThruRPG for $17.49 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. It is also available in printed form from sites such as Amazon. The PDF is the version reviewed and has 114 pages. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one the front matter, two the table of contents and one the Index.
The Introduction explains that this adventure takes place in and around the Nile Empire in the second half of the first year of the war. It gives some background on the activities of the Hooded Cobra, since he brushed with Storm Knights in Day One, and how to adapt the adventure to be suitable for Beta Clearance Storm Knights. There is a synopsis of the adventure and some details on the act timing; two of the middle acts have missions that can be played in any order, depending on what the characters have found out and what they choose to do first.
Act One: Crime City has the characters starting off in Venice at a museum, when Nile Empire agents try to steal a canopic jar. They then head to Cairo, hopefully rescue a journalist, then head to a film studio and finally to a club, where there is a chase afterwards.
Act Two: Swallowed by the Sand has the characters travelling across the Shara by plane, only to be shot down. Via a town, they then head to a dig site, where the Nile Empire is searching for a tomb. They then need to infiltrate the dig site, but will be captured on the way out and the important item they found stolen, after which they need to mount a pursuit.
Act Three: Expedition into Darkness has the characters meet the leader of the Mystery Men in Cairo and sent on a mission to recover the Bow of Sekana to give to the Amazons. This requires heading to the Congo and then heading out into the jungles to find a lost city where the bow can be found.
Act Four: Island of the Warrior Women has the characters travel to Hespera to talk to the queen of the Amazons, to find that agents of Mobius are also there. They will need to defeat the agents and internal enemies amongst the Amazons.
Act Five: Raiders at the Gate explains that the Mandjet has begun its reign of terror and that the Storm Knights will need to get its technical specs to have any chance of stopping it. They need to infiltrate the Palace of Mathematics in Thebes in order to get them, and then escape.
Act Six: The Source of the Nile has the characters heading to the shipyard where the Mandjet was built, may have to help protect a nearby hardpoint, then infiltrate the construction site and either steal an experimental jet or enough parts to build one, in order to get to the Mandjet.
Act Seven: Skies of Fire has the characters launching the final assault on the Mandjet in order to get aboard it and destroy it in some way that doesn’t cause more harm, escaping before it crashes.
Threats and Villains has stats for the various villains of the Retribution League as well as various other NPCs, creatures and vehicles.
Torg Eternity – The Fires of Ra in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with the major sections and subsections linked, although not as deeply as it could be. The table of contents is to a similar level of depth and the Index covers some of the more important things. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be mostly free of errors. There are a variety of colour illustrations and maps up to full page in size. Presentation is good.
This adventure is set six months into the invasion and therefore before the contents of any of the cosm sourcebooks. There is an outside possibility that if the characters fail, that there could be a serious knock-on effect from this, with either Doctor Mobius keeping control of a powerful weapon or the Hooded Cobra gaining one. This is fairly unlikely, fortunately, as one way or another the weapon will probably be destroyed, otherwise things could get messy for the setting.
The characters do have a chance to make a difference, though, for their success will reduce casualties that would otherwise happen, and may also have an effect on the diplomatic relations of the Delphi Council with the Amazons. Admittedly, that is another area where a notable change could be made to the cosm that isn’t covered in the cosm sourcebook. Torg Eternity – The Fires of Ra can be found by clicking here.
