The Right Tools – An Equipment Supplement for Vaesen by Ryan Main is a role playing game supplement published by Free League Publishing through the Free League Workshop Community Content Programme for use with Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying.
The supplement is available as a five page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover and half the Credits.
The supplement is divided into several sections. The first is Weaponry, which is itself divided into five melee and six ranged weapons, with stats and descriptions for these. These are items that would be available to use as weapons – one would be improvised, as it’s a tool – during the time period.
Equipment has seven new pieces of equipment, which again would be available at the time, and often earlier in some cases, with appropriate stats.
Finally, Mementoes has 12 new ones, which just have descriptions.
The Right Tools – An Equipment Supplement for Vaesen in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is short enough that these aren’t needed. Navigation is fine. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be almost free of errors. There are several black and white illustrations. Presentation is decent.
The primary error in the text is in Mementoes, where it says to roll 1d12 or 2d6 and combine the result. 2d6 does not give the same result as 1d12; it gives a range from 2-12, not 1-12, and moreover, unlike a d12, has a curve to the result. This is perhaps a small error, but it does mean the table needs a die not generally used in the game. Other than that, this is a decent collection of new gear.
