The Prince of the Sea by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with OSRIC. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. This is an adventure for characters of levels 4-7.
The supplement is available as a 25 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover, three are the front matter and three the Open Game License.
Game Master Notes explains that this was written for convention play and can be played as a one shot or as part of a campaign; there are some references to the author’s campaign setting. It also has some notes on the restrictions that being underwater places.
Background for Players explains that the characters are summoned to Freeport to see the baron. His daughter has just been kidnapped by sahuagin, who have been raiding the coastal villages, and he wants the characters to bring her back alive and the head of the sahuagin prince.
Random Encounters has some for inside and outside the sahuaguin temple.
Key to the Temple of the Sea covers the place’s layout. This is a small, single-level temple with some puzzles, though these look to be just to get more treasure rather than being essential to complete the adventure. Some are dangerous.
Game Master Note explains the baron will be happy if his daughter is returned alive and pay the full reward, but only half if just her body is brought back.
New Magical Items has these.
There are four pages of player handouts, although one is stats for a new creature not a handout, and the final page of content is a map of the temple.
The Prince of the Sea in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a two-column format and some minor errors were noticed. There are a number of stock colour and black and white illustrations. Presentation is okay.
Though this is a short adventure, completing it successfully may be difficult. The nature of the daughter’s confinement means that it is very easy to kill her by accident if insufficient care or thought is used. Other than that, this is a pretty straightforward adventure.
