The Egg

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement The Egg

The Egg by Jospeh Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are therefore considered to be Open Game Content.

The supplement is available as a 16 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.

The EggThe opening paragraphs explain that a survey team looking for minerals on a world on the borders of explored space – the adventure is set in the Frontiers of Space – has discovered a large white object believed to be an egg. The characters are hired to transport the egg by a scientist to his world so he can examine it.

Patron has details on the employer.

Complications has things that are not known or can go wrong.

CT2-UV6 has details on the planet.

The Egg has details on this.

The Creature has details on the, highly dangerous, creature in the egg.

Breakout has a table to determine when the egg is likely to hatch.

A Team with Destructive Plans has a rival team who wants to destroy the egg.

Mother Returns has a table for determining when the creature that laid the egg will return, and her stats.

Arrival looks at what will happen when the baby is born.

Mission Completion explains that they will only get paid for the safe delivery of the egg.

Consequences explains that the characters are highly likely to be partly responsible for a large number of deaths if they successfully deliver the egg. And transporting it is apparently illegal. Something the characters are assumed to know it seems.

The final page of content has a map of the planet.

The Egg in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that they would have been useful. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. Bar the map and covers, there are no illustrations. Presentation is okay.

This is a mission that the characters are best off not doing. If it’s successful, they will probably end up being chased by the law. If it’s not successful, they will definitely not get paid and may end up dead as well. There is no upside for them. The Egg can be found by clicking here.
