The Caverns of Kallyus by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with OSRIC. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available as a 19 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.
The opening paragraphs explain that bandits have recently started raiding caravans, which has caused a loss of needed supplies. There is a reward for anyone who can stop the menace, said to be frogmen.
For the Dungeon Master explains that this is an adventure for characters of levels 2-3. A tribe of bullywugs has been taken over by a magician who wants revenge for those who unjustly exiled him as a youth.
Placement explains it is best placed near a stream or swamp.
Towns and Villages explains that no specific ones have been named.
Rumours in the Towns or Villages has a d10 table of rumours, some true, some false, one is a bit of both.
Kallyus has details and stats for the mage.
His Comrades has stats for the bullywugs,
Wandering Encounters Near the Caves has encounters for the nearby area.
Wandering Encounters in the Caves has encounters for inside.
Key to the Caves covers the locations. Given that the bullywugs have been raiding caravans, there are quite a few trade goods present.
The final page of content has a map of the caves.
The Caverns of Kallyus in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that they would have been useful. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. Bar the map and covers, there are no illustrations. Presentation is okay.
The only real location in this adventure is the cave system itself, so there’s nothing else that needs to be dropped in. Given the type of adventure, it would probably work best in a borderland or frontier region; the bullywugs wouldn’t be that great a threat to any organised military force. The caves themselves are quite small. The Caverns of Kallyus can be found by clicking here.
