The Cat-Sith – A Creature for Vaesen by Ryan Main is a role playing game supplement published by Free League Publishing through the Free League Workshop Community Content Programme for use with Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying.
The supplement is available as a three page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover and a quarter the Credits.
This follows the typical format for covering a new vaesen. First, there is some flavour text about the creature, then a description of it. This is a fairy creature resembling a large cat that has been seen mostly in graveyards in Scotland and Ireland, but sometimes in cities and overseas. They steal the soul of the recently deceased and watch the memories. It will also sometimes impose itself on a deceased’s family and demand to be catered for. Sometimes they will release a soul or a household in exchange for something greater or being bested in a game.
Following this are vase details on the cat-sith’s characteristics, conditions, magical powers and combat, the ritual needed to repel them and their secret.
Finally, there are three examples of conflicts, which are basically adventure hooks.
The Cat-Sith – A Creature for Vaesen in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and at this length doesn’t need them. Navigation is fine. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There is one colour and one black and white illustration. Presentation is okay.
Though this is a vaesen mostly found in Scotland and Ireland, which would make it most suited for use with Mythic Britain & Ireland, it has also been stated to have been seen elsewhere, meaning a GM could drop it in wherever they please. It’s covered in enough detail to use it like one of the vaesen from the core books. The Cat-Sith – A Creature for Vaesen can be found by clicking here.
