So What’s The Exotic Mount Like, Anyway? by Mike Welham is a role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available as a 22-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $3.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter, Contents and Foreword, one page is an ad and one is the Open Game License. The PDF comes in two versions, one designed for print and high-end devices, the other for mobile and low-end devices.
The Foreword explains that this is a follow up to So What’s The Mount Like, Anyway? and covers more unusual mounts.
Table A Mount’s Appearance is a d100 table with 100 results. The results describe what creature the mo0unt is as well as some potentially unusual features.
Table B: Mount’s Traits is a d100 table with 98 results; the final two are roll two or three times on the table. The traits have a name, then a brief description with mechanics where necessary.
Table C: Hooks & Complications is a d20 table of potential adventure hooks.
Sample Exotic Mounts has eight stat blocks for unusual mounts.
Specialized Exotic Mounts has four sections, Burrowing, Underwater, Cold-Adapted and Fire-Adapted Mounts. Each has a brief description of the abilities followed by a d20 list of mounts. A sidebar looks at how a specialised mount might be gained.
Reading Stat Blocks is a standard section for understanding the ones used.
So What’s The Exotic Mount Like, Anyway? in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. The Contents is not as thorough but is hyperlinked. Navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be almost free of errors. There are a number of stock black and white illustrations up to full page in size. Presentation is decent.
Tables A and C can be used with systems other than Pathfinder; the other sections are too stat-heavy to use with other systems, though Specialized Exotic Mounts is borderline. This makes the supplement much focused on Pathfinder. For that system, though, it adds a wide range of more unusual mounts and features for such mounts to have. It allows the generation of different mounts for both PCs and NPCs, with some specific unusual examples as well. So What’s The Exotic Mount Like, Anyway? is a good little supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
