So What’s For Sale, Anyway? by Julian Neale is a role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available as a 26-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $3.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, four the front matter, Contents and Publisher’s Foreword, one page is an ad and one is the Open Game License. The PDF comes in two versions, one designed for print and high-end devices, the other for mobile and low-end devices.
The Publisher’s Foreword explains that the lists are intended to show what’s for sale in many different settlements and were created using the random tables in the Core Rulebook and GameMastery Guide, so that GMs don’t have to generate the material on the fly. They can be used when characters are looking to buy things, as potential adventure hooks for curious items or even by travelling merchants. They can also be easily modified.
Using So What’s For Sale, Anyway? explains how to use it and has eight different tables to roll on. These are for the eight different settlement types, from thorp to metropolis, and are rolled on to choose which result from those sections to use.
The majority of the supplement is taken up by the different results tables. These are divided into settlement types, with more results for the smaller settlements, each showing the magic items that can be found there. There are 41 lists for thorps, 35 for hamlets, 21 for villages, 16 for small towns, 13 for large towns, 10 for small cities, 10 for large cities and 11 for metropolises.
So What’s For Sale, Anyway? in Review
The PDF is well bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. The Contents is to less depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of black and white illustrations. Presentation is okay.
This supplement is essentially a time-saver; a GM could create all the results themselves, but with this all they need to do is roll once to get a list of items to find. As such, it is very useful. Of course, there is a problem with the thorp lists, in that many of them have magic items for sale that are probably worth more than the entire thorp, but that’s a fundamental problem with the game, not this supplement. So What’s For Sale, Anyway? is a useful, time-saving little supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
