Skills and Careers of the Frontiers of Space

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Skills and Careers of the Frontiers of Space

Skills and Careers of the Frontiers of Space by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

Skills and Careers of the Frontiers of SpaceThe supplement is available as a 26 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.

Game Master Notes explains that the supplement is designed for the Frontiers of Space, a sector on the edge of explored space.

Skills of the Frontiers of Space explains that the sector is more rugged than those where human civilisation has existed for millennia. Some of the skills most likely belong to NPCs, because, though useful for the NPC, they would be less useful for a PC.

A Note on the Word Alien as Used Below explains that aliens are non-humans who either live within the sector or visit it regularly.

Skills and Descriptions is an extensive list of skills.

Some Professions that are Known to Exist in the Frontiers of Space explains that most of the owners will still be actively involved in the professions and that most are likely to be the choice of NPCs. The professions are then covered in the standard way.

Skill Levels and Skill Tables has random table for determining such.

The PDF lacks bookmarks and, though these are not essential, they would have been appreciated. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. There are no illustrations, bar the covers. Presentation is okay.

Though the skills and careers may, in theory, have been created for a specific setting, the majority of them should drop into others without any problems, and any that need tweaking, setting-wise, will probably only need minor tweaks. Skills and Careers of the Frontiers of Space is a useful supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
