Sepulchre of the Wolf King (P1)

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Sepulchre of the Wolf King (P1)

Sepulchre of the Wolf King (P1) by Creighton Broadhurst is a role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. This is an adventure for 5th level characters.

The supplement is available as a 26-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $4.45. Two pages are the front and rear covers, two being ads, two the Contents and front matter and one the Open Game License. The PDF comes in two versions, one designed for print and high-end devices, the other for mobile and low-end devices.

Sepulchre of the Wolf King (P1)The first page of content has some details on the adventure itself. It starts with a listing of stat blocks and locations, how to use the adventure, which is set near Dunstone in the Duchy of Ashlar but could be moved to other appropriate areas and that the adventure has been designed to allow a party to explore the entire complex without resting. Each encounter follows a set layout, and this is explained; entries that don’t apply to a particular encounter are skipped.

Dungeon Background explains that the sepulchre was a temple tomb created by a wiped-out tribe of orcs. A meteorite impacted near the tomb, rousing the inhabitants as undead. Two ogres have also taken up residence in the upper level.

The Orc Pantheon gives brief details on two orc gods.

The Adventure Begins has three adventure hooks.

Whispers & Rumours has six rumours to hear.

The Surrounding Locality has a map of the local area with points of interest marked, as well as brief details on Dunstone and the village of White Moon Cove. The area has the three locations of the Vile Star Storyline as well as the standalone locations of the Splintered Crypt and House of Yspher. There are details on travelling on the road at different speeds, ten NPCs to encounter, ten pieces of wilderness dressing and ten things to find.

Notable Locations at a glance has brief details on the various locations in the sepulchre, as well as details on generic dungeon features and hazards.

Sepulchre of the Wolf King details the three levels of the dungeon, starting with the map. The various locations are laid out in the manner described at the beginning.

Aftermath looks at what happens when the adventure is completed, resolving the three adventure hooks and further adventures with the Dungeon Backdrops in the area.

Appendix 1: Stat Blocks has these for the various creatures.

Appendix 2: Player Handouts has these.

Sepulchre of the Wolf King (P1) in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with the various sections linked. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of black and white stock illustrations. Presentation is decent.

This is a straightforward enough adventure, with the characters exploring a tomb and dealing with what they find, and it’s intended for them to be able to do this on a single run through. Though set in the Duchy of Ashlar, there is very little tying it to the settings; with a couple of minor tweaks, it could be dropped into another setting easily enough.
