Repo!

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Repo!

Repo! by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 37 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three are the front matter and three the Open Game License.

The Frontiers of Space explains that the adventure is set in the Frontiers of Space setting but can easily be placed elsewhere.

Repo! Background explains that the characters are hired to recover three starships whose owners have fallen behind on their payments. Their fee will be a percentage of each ship’s value. It gives some details on each of the ships and their owners.

Ship Values for Purposes of this Adventure lists how much the characters could get, which is in the millions of credits. It’s also stated that this is very dangerous and some, perhaps all, of the characters could die.

Important Non Player Characters for this Adventure gives the stats of the crews and other people on each starship. In addition, two competing repo crews are statted out.

Complications lists a whole bunch of potential problems the characters could encounter; as stated, this is not a safe adventure.

Conditions for Success states that this is essentially three separate missions; recovering each starship is treated individually.

The Roid Ripper (Asteroid Miner) details the first ship, together with its crew and a map.

The Soul Reaper (Corvette) details the second, pirate, starship and crew, again with a map. Also detailed and mapped in this section is a small pirate base.

The Daydreamer (Yacht) again details and maps a ship and its crew.

Game Master Notes explains that this is a complicated adventure and the GM will need to make decisions depending on what the characters do. The recovery effort will in and of itself be expensive.

Repo! in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough that they would have been appreciated. Navigation is poor. The text maintains a single column format and appeared to be largely free of errors. Bar the cover illustrations and the colour maps, there are no other illustrations, and unfortunately the mas don’t come in player-friendly versions. Presentation is okay.

This isn’t as long an adventure as it looks. Much of the space is taken up by, repeatedly, giving the NPCs’ stats. Not only are they in the dedicated section, they are also repeated everywhere they might be encountered; in some cases, that can be four different locations. Consequently, much of the content is actually duplicated. Most of the rest covers the three starships and the pirate base. This is in many ways a rather freeform adventure; the ships and one ground location are given, as is the patron who employs the characters, but everything else is up to the GM. Repo! is a potentially lethal adventure and it can be found by clicking here.
