Recovery by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available as a 17 page Pay What You want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.
The opening paragraphs explain that the characters are approached by a representative of the Frontier Scout Service which explores world in the Sonora sector – the adventure is in the Frontiers of Space, though this isn’t stated – and beyond. A Scout has failed to return from a mission to the neighbouring sector and sent a mayday after possibly coming under attack. Two ships sent have failed to return and the characters are asked to go looking for the ship and return with the records.
Patron gives details on the employer.
Complications are things that can go wrong.
Bealu V has brief details on the planet where the scout was lost.
The Shipwreck briefly explains where the craft went down.
Random Encounters has some for when the characters are near the wreck.
Key to the Shipwreck details the crashed ship and crash site.
Nemo gives details on the scout’s dog.
Pirates details a pirate ship operating in the area.
The Unexpected Passenger Who is Not What She Seems gives details on the surviving passenger.
The Other Interested Parties are others interested in the survey data.
Mission Completion Objectives are how to complete it successfully.
The final page of content is a map of the crashed ship and site.
Recovery in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and, though comparatively short, has enough different sections that they would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. Bar the map and covers, there are no illustrations. Presentation is adequate.
This is a simple enough search and retrieval mission, though there are still dangers. As is quite common, some of the NPCs are described in an unnecessary amount of detail when a couple of stat blocks would have done the trick. Overall, this is a decent enough little adventure.
