Pilfered Tomes: Necromancer’s Den by Dave Woodrum and Darren Tenor is a generic role playing game supplement published by Fishwife Games.
This is a seven-page PDF that is available from DriveThruRPG for $1.50 but which was purchased at the reduced price of $1.01 during a sale. One page is the front cover and one the front matter.
The Introduction explains that this is a collection of books that a GM can use to flesh out a location. There is a d12 table for randomly rolling a book, and another d12 table for rolling its condition, which will alter the base value.
The books, of which there are a dozen, follow. All are roughly on the subject of necromancy and some associated topics. Each book is given a name, a description of the book and its contents, author, number of pages, weight and base value. The books are mostly nonfiction, but one is a collection of short stories and poems and another is generally believed to be fiction.
Pilfered Tomes: Necromancer’s Den in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is short enough that they are not needed. Navigation is okay. The text follows a single column format and a couple of minor errors were noted. There is a single black and white stock illustration and three colour ones associated with the dead or undead, roughly related to the appropriate text. Presentation is okay.
This is another supplement that provides a more detailed overview of a book’s contents that can make them more interesting, rather than simply stating that a book is found. This is a generic supplement and no game effects are given; GMs will have to decide for themselves what these, if any, could be, although one book does have a group actively hunting it down and destroying the book and any who possess it. Still, some suggested in-game uses would have been nice. Pilfered Tomes: Necromancer’s Den is a decent little supplement for fleshing out a bookshelf in more detail and it can be found by clicking here.
