Mythic Mastery – Mythic Aliens – The Astori by Alex Riggs and Joshua Zaback is a role playing game supplement published by Necromancers of the Northwest for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. This is one of a series of supplements that use the rules for mythic characters found in Mythic Adventures.
The supplement is available as an eight-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $1.49 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one page is the front matter and one the Open Game License.
The Astori opens by describing them as a race of energy beings. It gives their physical description and society. The astori were once a normal humanoid race, the dominant and only intelligent life on their home planet. An accident during an experiment on their homeworld, after they had started settling nearby systems, resulting in those astori on the homeworld Ascending to become energy beings, which set them apart from the non-affected astori of other systems. How current astori works is covered, before moving onto relations, alignment and religion and adventurers.
Male and female names are given, followed by standard racial traits and mythic racial traits. All astori have some mythic power and count as mythic and can manipulate energy fields. As they are energy beings, they do not need to eat, sleep or breathe and can survive in vacuum. An example of an astori is given, followed by new feats.
Mythic Mastery – Mythic Aliens – The Astori in Review
The PDF is bookmarked and these cover most of the sections. Given its length, navigation is very good. The text maintains a two-column colour format and appeared to be free of errors. There is a single colour image, probably stock. Presentation is okay.
This supplement covers a single new species that is perhaps better suited to a science fiction, or science fantasy, setting, than a pure fantasy one. Starfinder might seem a more obvious choice, but this supplement precedes Starfinder’s release. Paizo‘s official Golarion setting does have science fiction elements, making the astori more suitable for use in that; other settings may struggle more. Mythic Mastery – Mythic Aliens – The Astori is an inexpensive little supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
