Minco (Deluxe Apocalypse Setting) by Dave Woodrum is a generic role playing game supplement published by Fishwife Games.
The supplement is available as a 25-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $2.50 but was purchased at a reduced price during a sale. One page is the front cover and one the front matter and Table of Contents.
Welcome to the Community of Minco! gives an overview of the town and its location. Prior to the apocalypse, it was a coal mining town in the mountains and that coal means that today it still has power. Outsiders are given varied treatment and those that live in the areas outside of Minco proper are generally called hillbillies, which is not always accurate. It then gives an overview of the contents.
Community Map: describes the different locations in Minco, 50 in total. Each is named, described and its population given. Some areas have no permanent population, such as the mine, but people can still be found there. Numbers of residents, and their livestock, at every location are given, and what they are is also given, such as job or activity for unnamed NPCs or animal species. There are two full page colour maps of the town, one with numbered locations, one without for players.
Minco Broadcasting Stations gives details on the three radio stations and one television station broadcast from Minco; power means they have the ability to do this.
Terrain Map: describes 24 locations in the area – one being Minco proper – with briefer overviews of what can be found there. There is a black and white hex map of the region, with 1 hex equalling one mile, again in two versions, one with numbers and a player one without.
Random Terrain Encounters and Discoveries: has three d20 tables; one for a primary encounter, one for a beast encounter and one for random finds.
Minco (Deluxe Apocalypse Setting) in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough sections that these would have been useful. The Table of Contents covers the major sections. Navigation could be better. The text is either one or two column format and some minor errors were spotted. As well as the maps, there are some stock black and white photos. Scattered throughout are a number of empty boxes for GMs to put in conversion notes. Presentation is adequate.
With this being system neutral, and setting generic, stats are not given nor are details of the apocalypse. The location itself is probably best suited for somewhere like the US Appalachians. Though the nature of the apocalypse isn’t stated, this is best suited for a near now post-apocalyptic future, as technology is still extant and is at today’s level. It is therefore not suited for a distant future apocalypse. The GM will need to do some work to adapt this, primarily determining stats for NPCs; nothing more than general description such as “hedonist” or “farmer” is given. Minco (Deluxe Apocalypse Setting) is a decent little supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
