Liber Monstrorum for Shadow of the Demon Lord

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Liber Monstrorum for Shadow of the Demon Lord

Liber Monstrorum for Shadow of the Demon Lord by Mark Craddock is a role playing game supplement published by Cross Planes Game Studio for Shadow of the Demon Lord through Schwalb Entertainment‘s Disciples of the Demon Lord Community Content Program.

This is a nine page PDF that is available from DriveThruRPG for $1.99 but was purchased for the reduced price of $1.33 during a sale. Around half of the first page is an illustrations and a quarter the Credits; the rest is content.

Liber Monstrorum for Shadow of the Demon LordThis is a bestiary with six new monsters for Shadow of the Demon Lord. It starts with a brief introductory paragraph.

The six new monsters start with the Brotherhood of Bones & Teeth, who are clones of what is probably a faerie. The DeRo are deranged robots who live and underground and occasionally raid the surface for slaves. The Edimmu is a type of vampire, one that looks nothing like a person. The Hellbringer is a magician who was consumed by hellfire and is denied Hell. The Medusazor is a creature summoned from the Void. The Watcher in the Woods is a type of creature that serves witches.

The monster descriptions are then followed by six Adventure Hooks. There is an adventure hook for each monster described.

The PDF lacks bookmarks and, although it isn’t truly long enough to need them, they would have been appreciated. The text maintains a two column full colour format and some minor errors were noticed. Each monster has a colour illustration, which is a nice touch. The illustrations are stock, but all are by the same artists and the descriptions have been tailored to fit the artwork. Presentation is very good.

There is one oddity in the description for the Brotherhood of Bones & Teeth; a demoness is referred to as the Mother of Hell. In Shadow of the Demon Lord, demons are entities from the Void and devils are corrupted faeries who live in Hell. So a demon would not be found in Hell.

The addition of adventure hooks for every monster is a nice touch, as it makes the supplement more than just a simple bestiary. Altogether, this is a nice collection of new creatures and hooks for Shadow of the Demon Lord. Liber Monstrorum for Shadow of the Demon Lord can be found by clicking here.
