Ithiko Castle by Edwin King and Richard Porter is a role playing game supplement published by Columbia Games Inc. for use with HârnMaster, although this supplement is essentially generic.
The supplement is available from DriveThruRPG as a 7-page PDF for $2.99 although it was purchased at a reduced price due to a discount.
The opening data gives the castle’s location, holder, liege and population, then the History is covered. The location is most notable for being the birthplace of one of the most influential religious figures of Hârnic history. It was part of the Corani empire until that fell, then the forces of Kubora. The current holder is still loyal to the crown, even though his opinion of the wearer is less than stellar. Government is briefly covered, as it is Earl Barzak, its economy is not great and taxes are listed. Religion is fairly important, given the shrine to the religious figure mentioned. The Company of the Argent Wyvern is a group of mercenaries of a less than brilliant nature by the earl to defend against an enemy.
There are two colour maps of the settlement, each full page, one labelled, for the GM, and one not, for the players. Another page covers the locations in the settlement. Two more pages have maps of the castle and details of it, and some important people.
Ithiko Castle in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and, at this length, doesn’t need them. Navigation is, however, odd. The maps and the descriptions of the locations are wedged into the middle of the supplement, meaning that the information that starts on page 1 is continued on page 6. There is no logical reason for this; the location details could easily have followed on after. The text is either two-column or single column with maps and appeared to be free of errors. Other than the maps – the castle maps are in black and white – there is a single illustration which may be stock. Presentation is okay.
This is one of the definitely generic Hârn supplements, as no game stats are given at all. This means it will be comparatively easy using it with other systems. All that needs doing is the various NPCs being given stats. With a bit more work, it could also be dropped into another setting, although the history would be invalidated. Ithiko Castle is a decent little supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
