Hero Kids - Space Mini-Game - Comet Ball

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Hero Kids – Space Mini-Game – Comet Ball

Hero Kids – Space Mini-Game – Comet Ball by Brian Phongluangtham is a role playing game supplement published by B Drone Games and Hero Forge Games through the Hero Kids Creator’s Guild Community Content Programme for use with Hero Kids.

The supplement is available as a 17 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover and one the front matter.

Hero Kids - Space Mini-Game - Comet BallIt starts with Comet Ball Rules. This supplement is a game, not an adventure, one that is based around Hero Kids. It is played between two opposing teams of four players, in-game, but this would be between two players each controlling four heroes. The aim of the game is to score 3 goals into the opposing team’s goal. The game is played on a battlemap with miniatures.

Comet Ball Player Cards explains how to use the cards. They are designed in the same way as normal Hero Kids cards, but not every ability is used in a game.

Comet Ball Player Actions explains the offence and defence rules, as well as some optional advanced rules.

Using Other Hero Cards explains how to use a regular hero in a Comet Ball game and how to use Comet Ball Hero Cards in regular adventures.

Special Actions then covers the Comet Ball special abilities, which are similar to the various actions available to normal heroes, only for the game.

Four pages then have the arena battle map in quadrants and a fifth page shows the full pitch.

Four pages have eight new Hero Cards for Comet Ball heroes. The final page has miniatures for these.

Hero Kids – Space Mini-Game – Comet Ball in Review

The PDF is fully bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. Navigation is very good. The text mostly follows a two-column format but occasionally is single column and appeared to be free of errors. The primary illustrations are for the miniatures and Hero Cards, which are custom and in black and white except on the cover.

This is a nice little minigame for two players and, probably, a GM to function as a referee. Though not an adventure in and of itself, it could always be worked into an adventure. The space theme for Hero Kids is a bit undeveloped, so this provides a nice extra. What isn’t clear is why it’s been published through the Creator’s Guild; it could just have easily been published through the regular license. Hero Kids – Space Mini-Game – Comet Ball is recommended, especially as it’s Pay What You Want, and can be checked out by clicking here.
