Gregorius21778: 10 Mighty Magical Weapons is a role playing game supplement written and published by Kai Pütz a.k.a Gregorius21778 for use with Labyrinth Lord.
The supplement is available from DriveThruRPG as a four page Pay What You Want PDF. One page is the front cover and around half a page is the front matter.
About this supplement: explains that complicated magical items are more interesting than ones that have a permanent effect.
The ten weapons are then described.
Moonray only works properly under the full moon.
Dragonslayer only works against dragons.
Flamedrinker becomes magical briefly when heated.
Stargift is empowered briefly after an incantation and being hit by lightning.
Balegloom works underground.
Spellswallower improves magical saving throws when held but conversely makes it harder to cast spells.
Skulltaker becomes magical after taking a head, whether this be to kill an enemy or one that the wielder has just recently slain.
Soulshield can grant extra saving throws against magic.
Wrathreaper turns the wielder into an undead if they die in battle, until there are no more enemies left to fight.
The Heartwood Staff has more power when used in healthy woodland or forests.
Gregorius21778: 10 Mighty Magical Weapons in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is short enough that it doesn’t need them. Navigation is fine. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. There is a single piece of colour stock art. Presentation is fine.
These weapons are definitely interesting. In some cases, they aren’t magical for very long, or need rather precise conditions to work, or both. Those can be tweaked if needed, though. The items will work easily enough with other OSR games and many D&D-derived ones, although more modern games will require a bit of work, and players who are only used to more modern games may dislike the limitations of these weapons. Gregorius21778: 10 Mighty Magical Weapons is a nice collection of interesting weapons and it can be found by clicking here.
