Gregorius’ Notes: On the Weird OSR Fantasy #Year 2022 is a role playing game supplement written and published by Kai Pütz a.k.a Gregorius21778 for use with Lamentations of the Flame Princess. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available as a 21-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $2.50 but was purchased at a reduced price during a sale. One page is the front cover, half the front matter and one the Open Game License. The PDF comes in two versions, one with a background and some colour illustrations, one without and with the colour illustrations, bar the cover, in black and white. There are also a jpg and a png with maps.
The opening paragraph explains that this is a collection of articles from the publisher’s blog.
Non-Ecclesial Cleric Concepts has four different options for clerics in LotFP, rather than the standard Christian ones. These are touched by the divine, a witch or wiseman of the old ways, one in league with Lovecraftian horrors and one that is a bit mad.
Monsters for the Countryside has some new monsters. The ravager is a gigantic boar, frostfang is a wyvern or very small dragon, cacklers are murderous pucks, imps and pixies, the ghost of Whistling Pete is an undead cutthroat, the moonhound is a large hound and the Red Haired Woman is a hunter of men.
When In Need of a Linkboy has three tables for creating a linkboy.
D20 Urban Colourite has 20 fantasy urban encounters.
Magic Items of Vanity is eleven new magic items designed as if they were made by vain elves.
Curse of Vengeful Spilled Blood is a curse that turns the blood of a dead creature into a monster.
Eyes for Weird Fantasy has two sets of eyes that are magical in nature.
VAM-based Alternative Magic Rules has some alternative magic rules.
Alternative Invisibility has 20 ideas for different kinds of invisibility.
Summon Candle-Angel is a summoning spell for a creature with variable powers.
Warding Firebowl is a magic item that can function as a fire-based trap.
Temple of the Ensouled Flame is a small adventure location, with one of the images being the map, that the characters can visit. It’s set in the standard LotFP type setting.
The Treasure of Captain Ashcroft is a dungeon location with a treasure to find.
Gregorius’ Notes: On the Weird OSR Fantasy #Year 2022 in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a two-column format and some minor errors were noticed. There are a number of colour and black and white stock images. Presentation is decent.
This is what it says it is; a collection of different kinds of articles related to weird fantasy. It is a decent collection of such, however, and there are essentially two complete adventures in this, making it decent value for money. Being an OSR game, it should also be comparatively easy to convert it from LotFP to other OSR systems; some of the material is system-neutral anyway. Gregorius’ Notes: On the Weird OSR Fantasy #Year 2022 is a nice collection of miscellaneous material and it can be found by clicking here.
