Goats by Jonathan Davidson and John Sgammato is a role playing game supplement published by Columbia Games Inc. for use with HârnMaster. This is a bestiary article.
The supplement is available as a two-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $1.48 but was purchased at a reduced price during a sale.
The first page of content, Goats, covers the domesticated goats found. The sidebar has the HârnMaster stats for the goat as well as its economic data. The text that accompanies this describes the goats, their use, which, as they are less valuable than sheep, is on land that is unsuited to more valuable farming uses. There are descriptions of their appearance and behaviour. This is followed by descriptions of two specific types of goats bred.
Mountain Goat is the second page and describes a wild type of goat. The sidebar again has the HârnMaster stats, but this time accompanied by a map showing where they can be found. The text again describes where the goats are found, their size, appearance, behaviour and some economic uses, namely for their pelts, predators and hunting – they are difficult to hunt or prey on due to living on steep slopes – as well as recounting a legend associated with the mountain goats.
Goats in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and with only two pages of content doesn’t need them. Navigation is fine. The text maintains a single column with sidebar format and appeared to be free of errors. There are some black and white illustrations which may be stock. Presentation is fine.
This supplement continues with the bestiary format of describing a limited number, in this case one with different types, of creatures in detail. Though it has game stats, much of the content is suitable for use with any system, being descriptive in nature. Again, this is a creature that is unlikely to be a combat foe, so the supplement’s primary use is probably as setting background. Goats can be found by clicking here.
